Untitled (Cosatu), in collaboration with louise Almon Mixed media on paper
2011
In December 1985 artist, Louise Almon designed the current logo for Cosatu. On the morning of the second day of the launch of the Congress that Jay Naidoo had asked her about doing a proposal for the logo. Using her empty teacup, she’d traced a circle on a piece of paper, and sketched a wheel and 3 workers. The logo was well received however she was asked to change one worker into a woman, forming the configuration familiar to us now. The sketch went into use immediately meaning that Louise was never able to ‘finish’ the logo. I asked Louise if she would be open to trying to find a resolution for it now in 2011. The result was these drawings which again escaped closure.
