21 Gun Salute for the Death of a Collector | Action | 2007 For my first solo show in a commercial gallery (Michael Stevenson Gallery
in Cape Town), I presented an exhibition that took the relationship between
artists and collectors as a starting point. Discussions around the increasingly
prominent profile of collectors in the international art-world have escalated
in recent years. I approached this exhibition as a backdrop within this
debate. The show comprised of a single certificate of authenticity. This
sets out the terms of a contract stating that the collector who purchases
the work will have a 21 gun salute performed at his/her funeral.
